WhatsApp For Android Gets More Secure To Ensure User Privacy

The latest update to the WhatsApp application on Android devices just got a whole lot more secure: the messaging app now makes use of end-to-end encryption to make WhatsApp messages virtually unreadable by anyone besides the intended recipient- even WhatsApp themselves.
The company has been working on encrypting the texts coming through its servers ever since it was acquired by Facebook in a multi-billion dollar deal back in February, amidst security concerns that resulted in a server outage mere days after the official acquisition announcement went through.
With WhatsApp being the most popular OTT messaging app in the world by a sizable margin, the company turned to open source encryption software, TextSecure, which pretty much guarantees that neither the company nor anyone besides the recipient device will be able to de-crypt the text.

This featurette practically makes WhatsApp the most secure messaging tool out there on Android, as not many other services utilise end-to-end encryption. Apple’s iMessage does make use of this security technology, but it is their own proprietary software which means in theory Apple could access your iMessage if it tried, whereas TextSecure is open source and therefore WhatsApp itself will not have access to your private texts.
