Samsung To Release Foldable Display Smartphones Next Year

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
Even though Samsung will be cutting their lineup of smartphones next year by at least a third, the company still has plans on launching a new flexible display for smartphones, according to Lee Chang-hoon, vice president of the business strategic team at Samsung Display. He revealed this at the Samsung Investor Forum 2014 in New York, stating that his company will come out with a flexible screen that can be folded in half, although no word on the device which it will be incorporated into.
“We will secure production capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 [flexible displays each month] by the end of next year. We plan to provide consumers with a product that has a flexible display by the end of the year. However, nothing has been decided on the finished product. There will be no company [except Samsung] that has this great production capacity by 2016.”
Despite their apparent indecision, Samsung is probably aware of the reception that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge garnered, and will be expected to progress further in the new category of smartphones. In addition to that, Samsung is planning to reinforce itself against the LCD technology with plans to lower production costs of its AMOLED displays.
