Samsung working on more mid-range handsets, the Galaxy E5 and E7

Along with news of the Galaxy Grand 3 and the release of two new A series handsets, news has also appeared regarding two new smartphones in Samsung’s upcoming E series line-up, the Galaxy E5 and E7. So much for trimming down its number of models and re-evaluating its approach to smartphone development.

Anyway, according to industry insiders, the Galaxy E5 and E7 appear to share a lot in common with Samsung’s recently released Galaxy A3 and A5, as well as the rumored A7, and fall right into the mid-tier category. Interestingly, both will apparently ship with Android Lollipop out of the box.

Starting with the E7, the handset features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 720p. It reportedly packs a mid-range 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front facing camera, 16GB of internal storage and a 2,950mAh battery. Dimensions are 151×77×7.2 mm.

The Galaxy E5 apparently sits in the middle of the E range. It features a display measuring 5.0-inch and presumably has the same display resolution at the E7. The E5 contains the same internal hardware, except for a lower resolution 8 megapixel rear camera and a smaller 2,300mAh battery. The E5 should also be slightly smaller and lighter than the E7. The source states that the batteries will be non-removable, but wouldn’t didn’t give details about whether the E range would feature the same metallic build quality as the A series.

Given that Samsung has only just released the A series and that the E series appears to be targeted at a similar market segment, an official announcement from Samsung is still probably months away. What do you make of all these mid-range Samsung smartphones?
